Curriculum Development and Articulation – The Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction must demonstrate a professional understanding of system-wide curriculum programs in order to assess, evaluate, revise, implement and monitor the curriculum and assessment needs of the district. S/he oversees the implementation of grading policies & practices and works with needed committees to make recommendations for improvements. S/he oversees all testing programs, evaluates all testing data, and prepares reports for the Superintendent & the Board of Education as needed and/or required. S/he will ensure that all overnight field trips have been planned and executed according to district policy and are properly insured. S/he approves the purchase of essential equipment, texts, and supplies for curriculum implementation and conducts periodic meetings with directors, chairpersons, and other staff groups to discuss implementation of curriculum programs, supervisory programs, curriculum development, etc.

Professional Development – The Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction will develop and implement professional development activities and trainings related to the implementation of specific educational and pedagogical programs. S/he coordinates and oversees Superintendent’s Conference Days, the opening day program and meets regularly with service providers of special programs.

Supervision and Evaluation – The Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction will supervise and evaluate all aspects of the instructional program, curriculum, and professionally certified personnel. S/he will supervise and/or oversee all summer school programs, extended school year programs, enrichment & remedial programs, driver education, credit recovery programs (early summer school), etc. S/he also supervises and evaluates the Directors, Chairpersons, Director of Physical Education, Health, Athletics and Recreation, Director of Guidance, Director of Technology, Director of Registration and Student Services, and the Director of Pupil Personnel Services (PPS).

Community Relations - The Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction develops programs of communication designed to communicate the educational program to the community and participates in community activities.

Financial Administration - The Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction is responsible for all grants necessary to ensure that the district receives appropriate funding under state and federal entitlements. S/he establishes and maintains procedures that support accountability and utilization of funds allocated through all entitlement grant programs including special education.
